The European EN 16510 standard is gradually coming into force and replaces several historical standards in the sector (EN 13229, EN 13240, EN 14785…).
It provides a more precise definition of how wood and pellet heating appliances are tested, assessed and certified.
The objective is clear: to ensure safer, cleaner and more consistent heating across Europe.
This evolution concerns both future buyers and current users.
At Stûv, it aligns with an approach we have followed for many years: designing stoves and fireplaces that combine performance, simplicity, durability and safety.
The EN 16510 standard focuses on four key objectives:
1. Strengthening safety
The testing methods have been revised to better measure:
2. Better control of emissions
Measured values (dust, CO, NOx, OGC, fine particles) are now analysed using harmonised and more comprehensive protocols.
This ensures cleaner combustion and better indoor air quality.
3. Harmonising tests across Europe
Until now, methods varied from one country to another.
The EN 16510 standard creates a common reference, making appliances easier to compare and strengthening regulatory consistency.
4. Verifying long-term stability
The standard introduces endurance tests to ensure that performance remains stable throughout the product’s lifespan.
As part of the transition to EN 16510, all Stûv appliances have been retested:
These tests were carried out in accredited laboratories and form part of our certification process.
They enabled us to:
During the transition period, two versions of the user manual may still be present in the packaging.
The version dated November 2025 or later is the official reference.

>If you already own a Stûv appliance
Nothing changes for you, provided that the safety distances applicable at the time of installation were respected.
If you are considering a new purchase
All appliances currently sold by Stûv comply with the EN 16510 standard.
You therefore benefit from:
For your home
The new requirements better regulate installations in modern or renovated homes, where airtightness plays a key role.
Stûv appliances remain perfectly suited to such environments thanks to their dedicated air supply systems and their design focused on thermal comfort.
The arrival of the standard confirms choices that have always guided the design of Stûv appliances:
Our appliances have always been designed to offer the right balance between power, efficiency, comfort and design.
The EN 16510 standard strengthens this approach.
